IBS is one of the most commonest disorders affecting the intestines. It is not dangerous or serious but can cause considerable discomfort.

IBS represents a disturbance in the function of the bowel (or lower part of the gut) that is often linked to the feelings and emotions. It is not associated with any inflammation or structural damages to the bowel. The word 'syndrome' is a medical term for a collection of signs and symptons.

Most commonly the symptoms are abdominal discomfort and disturbance of bowel habit, which may consist of one or more of the following: Diarrehoa, Constipation, Urgent need to go to the toilet after food, Sensation that the bowels are always full or blocked.
